Allocation Committee

Who are we and what do we do?

We are students who live in KaWo 1 and support the Studierendenwerk Aachen in re-occupying free rooms in the dormitory, all the wile representing the interests of the current residents.

Together with the residents, we try to create a harmonious climate in the hallways and the dorm as a whole.

If you would like to move into KaWo 1, register at the applicant portal of the Studierendenwerk Aachen and fill out the application as completely as possible. Please refrain from using ChatGTP or other AI-tools for your self-description.

We will contact you as soon as you are considered for a free room.

Frequently asked questions

You must submit your notice of termination to your landlord, usually the Studierendenwerk Aachen. The notice period is two months. Please always note the exact conditions in your tenancy agreement. The exact procedure is set out there. If you only want to interrupt your rental period, it is best to contact the occupancy committee at the same time.

In a "Sigle room" you share a kitchen, balcony, shower and bathroom with 4 other people from your floor. So unlike in a "Single Appartment" you do not live completely alone.

The rooms are ~12 m² in size and have their own wash basin including mirror. The exact floor plan varies depending on the position in the corridor. The rent is 223€ per month, including heating and electricity costs.
Curtains, attachable window shades or blinds as well as a bed are to be brought by yourself. A desk, wooden chair, wardrobe and bookshelf are already in the room.

The waiting list position tells you how many people before you have applied for a room in a category. However, this number is only of limited significance because not every person is suitable for every kitchen or hallway. Depending on various factors, the waiting period can therefore be between two months and two years.

Do be considered for a room in KaWo1 you need to apply in the applicant portal of the Studierendenwerk (STW) Aachen for a room in our dorm. You can find it here. The waiting time varies depending on lot of factors.

As soon as the allocation comitte is able to allocate rooms, it will screen the list of applicants according to the STWs allocation guidelines and contact suitable applicants. If you then accept as an applicant, you will receive an email from the STW after some time in which you should confirm your rental request. Once this has been done, you will receive another email ~4 weeks or as soon as possible before the desired move-in date with the specific room number and the further procedure regarding the deposit and signing of the tenancy agreement.
